Wanjoo Nidja Walyalup, Whadjuk Land - Welcome this is
Fremantle, Whadjuk Land. Walyalup is the chosen location for the Aboriginal
Health Conference 2024, and in the Nyoongar language, it means the place of the
Walyo or Woylie, a small brush-tailed bettong or kangaroo rat. We acknowledge
the Whadjuk Nyoongar people as the Traditional Owners of the Perth region and
pay our respects to Whadjuk Elders, both past and present. As we gather on this
significant land, we express gratitude for the opportunity to learn, share
experiences, and come together.
The Aboriginal Health Conference 2024 will provide an opportunity to come together and learn from each other. Through presentations, panel sessions, case study discussions and workshops we will provide an engaging and informative conference program for delegates. The 2024 theme, "Circling the Fire: Connecting, Celebrating, and Committing to Aboriginal Health," embodies the spirit of unity, celebration, and dedication to improving Indigenous health outcomes. This theme aligns seamlessly with the NAIDOC theme for 2024, 'Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud,' reinforcing our commitment to empowering Aboriginal communities.
The conference program will have five streams, providing comprehensive insights into crucial aspects of Aboriginal health:
Tanya Turna
Bega Garnbirringu Health Service
"My first attendance at the Conference and it was a fantastic opportunity to Network, hear how other services were managing challenges and the Keynote Speakers addresses will remain with me for many, many years. Thankyou to all involved. I for one am super grateful that I had the opportunity to attend."
Dr Rosalie Shultz
Ngaanyatjaarra Health Service
"This was the first conference I've ever attended with more Aboriginal than non-Aboriginal speakers. So pleased to feel that the people we are servicing are now telling us how to do it better for them."
