2022 Conference artwork

About

The vibrant artwork used across the Aboriginal Health Conference 2022 has been proudly commissioned by the Rural Health West Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Committee. The artwork by artist Yondee Shane Hansen, artistically portrays the story of Rural Health West. Rural Health West have chosen to showcase this artwork by incorporating it into the imagery for the Aboriginal Health Conference 2022.

The four main colours running through the middle of the network are representing the four Rural Health West values – Community, Integrity, Innovation and Accountability - this is also part of the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River).
The blue lines with the white dots are roads travelled by Rural Health West service providers and the coloured lines throughout the artwork are the different landscapes and changing country of colours.
The six circles with white and coloured lines through them are representing the six Noongar seasons. Also included are the fourteen Noongar nations, the communities where Rural Health West service providers work. Moreover, footprints are symbolised to show the many people that access Rural Health West services.

The artist: Yondee Shane Hansen

Yondee Shane Hansen is a Perth based Noongar artist. He was born at Dumbleyung, 270 km south west of Perth. He grew up in WA’s south west around Narrogin, and later near Guildford on the outskirts of Perth. Yondee was taught about hunting and shown sand drawings by his father. Around the age of ten he would travel and visit his aunties on the Swan River and would collect paper bark to help them in their art work. It was here that he started to learn about art from his older relatives who are known for their painting on paper bark. The artist’s bush name, Yondee, means Black Goanna.
