Become a member of an elite squad of medical practitioners ready at short notice to support rural communities across Western Australia during the COVID-19 pandemic.

WA Country Health Service and Rural Health West are building a squad of qualified medical practitioners who are ready and available to provide additional support to hospitals across rural Western Australia.

Rural communities may be highly vulnerable as COVID-19 spreads into country regions. Small sites can quickly become crippled if resident clinical staff are required to quarantine due to COVID-19 exposure.

The Rural Rapid Response (RRR) Squad will provide a failsafe for rural hospitals and may be used to provide relief for frontline hospital staff over the coming months.

Heed the call!

We are calling on medical practitioners with the following skills and attributes to join the RRR Squad:

·       Registration, or ability to be registered*, with Ahpra as a medical practitioner

·       Experience in emergency medicine, anaesthesia, obstetrics, paediatrics, or surgery

·       Prior rural experience preferred, but not essential

·       Ability to relocate to a rural location within 48 hours for periods up to 2-4 weeks (negotiable)

Benefits

Attractive remuneration on offer, commensurate with the short-term, urgent nature of assignments. Travel and accommodation will be provided while on an assignment.

Members of the RRR Squad will be offered assignments relevant to their skills and experience. Assignments will be offered as short term contracts through a Medical Services Agreement (MSA) with WA Country Health Service as the engaging health service.

*Retired/lapsed medical practitioners
The Medical Board of Australia is establishing a 12-month pandemic response sub-register to enable experienced and qualified medical practitioners to return to the workforce. This sub-register enables medical practitioners who left the Register of Practitioners or moved to non-practising registration in the past three years to return to practice. The process will occur automatically, however practitioners can opt-out. Registration fees have been waived. The sub-register will commence Monday 6 April 2020.
